Day 6 of The Fit Fridge’s Twelve Days of Healthy Holidays glows brightly as students “light the candles” and practice striking skills. Like what you see? Let us know, and you’ll be entered into next Wednesday’s for a prize pack of gift tags and packaging to use with the healthy holiday recipes I’ll share in the next few days!
Light the Candles
Goal: To practice striking skills.
Supplies: Cones representing desired number of candles (e.g. 8 for a menorah, 4 for an advent wreath or 6 for a Kwanzaa kinara), foam beanbags or balls (red, orange or yellow to represent a flame), paper numbers cut from construction paper and taped onto each cone (use 1-8 for a menorah, 1-4 for an advent wreath or 1-6 for a kinara)
Description: For Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, an additional candle at the center of the candleholder is used to light the others during each night of celebration. During advent, one candle is lit on each of four Sundays leading up to Christmas. Using their beanbags, students attempt to hit the tip of each cone candle in numerical order to “light” them.
Adaptation suggestions: Decrease the distance between the students and the cones.
