Twelve Days of Healthy Holidays: Day 2 – “Trim the Tree” Game

Day 2 of The Fit Fridge’s Twelve Days of Healthy Holidays keeps everyone moving as they “trim the tree.”  Don’t forget to post comments after you’ve tried the game, and one person who posts will be randomly selected next Wednesday to receive a prize pack of gift tags and packing to use with the healthy holiday activities posted here over the next few days!

Trim the Tree

Goal: To improve accuracy with kicking.

Grades: Preschool-6th

Supplies: Green jump rope or green yarn of the same length, foam balls in different colors to represent Christmas ornaments

Description: Arrange the jump rope or yarn in the outline of an evergreen tree or triangle shape.  Have students stand a few feet from the foot of the tree and kick the “ornaments” into the tree to decorate it.  For an added challenge, have them work with a partner who stands at the other end of the tree to receive the ball and pass it back to the kicker.

Adaptation suggestions: Decrease the distance between the students and the tree
